Halloween is a holiday celebrated each year on October 31. Halloween is a mostly-secular celebration, but some Christians and Pagans believe it has religious or evil overtones.
Halloween has roots in the Celtic festival of Samhain that celebrated the dead and the end of the harvest season in Gaelic cultures. Halloween is also rooted in Christian holy All Saints Day that commemorates those in heaven who have an eternal perception of God. Irish immigrants brought Halloween to North America during Ireland’s Great Famine of 1846.
Halloween is associated with the colors orange and black and symbols such as jack-o’-lanterns, ghosts and witches. Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, haunted house tours, costume parties, carving jack-o’-lanterns, telling scary stories, and watching horror movies.
